Done and Not Done

“We have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done.” BCP, Penitential Order I, page 321

Sin, the feeling of being separated from God and from one another, occurs when we do what we should not do (a sin of commission), and when we don’t do the things we know we ought to do (a sin of omission). What is even more difficult? It is only with God’s help, and the help of others that we can know the difference. Ugh!

This classic dialogue between the Sheriff and Mater from the Disney/Pixar film, Cars, says it all.

Sheriff : “Mater! What did I tell you about [doing that]?
Mater : To not to.
